Jake & Charlotte

Jake and Charlotte:

How Did You Meet?

We met through a mutual friend at a BBQ! Our usher on the day, Wayne, actually introduced us and made a perfect third wheel whilst Jake and I got to know each other. We first met in May 2014 and by July, I had been asked to be Jake’s girlfriend. We did not even go on a proper ‘date’ until we were already a couple, which was in Derbyshire, so we bonded over our love for fish & chips and 2p machines. We also got engaged in 2020 at Matlock in the spot where we had our first photo, here were definitely many tears and a huge yes!

What Made You Choose Haarlem as Your Wedding Venue?

We loved the look of the venue instantly just from photos, and we liked the idea of the wedding venue being local to Matlock round. Helen showed us round on our first viewing and we loved being educated on the history of the venue, making it more fascinating. The venue had the whole package and ticked all our boxes. The team were so warm and lovely from the initial enquiry, and everything was so much easier compared to other venues we had viewed, such as the catering/drinks packages available. Whilst having a solo look around, we got emotional in the ceremony room just imagining our wedding day, so we knew there and then that Haarlem Mill was the venue for us

.

What Has Been Your Favourite Part of Wedding Planning?

The whole process was incredible, but a highlight was asking our wedding party to play a role n our special day, it was an unreal feeling to involve the people we loved the most. I love organising events anyways so getting to book all the suppliers and see everything come together for the day was special. one of our highlights was choosing our rings on our 6-year anniversary.

What Was Your Theme or Colour Scheme? What Inspired You? Were There Any DIY or Personal Touches?

We were all about candles and greenery! Haarlem is so beautiful that we did not feel like it needed dressing too much. We also didn’t book a wedding stylist as we were keen to do it ourselves. Hollie, our wonderful florist, nailed our vision and scattered greenery in every corner of the venue. In terms of the evening theme, it was ‘tastefully cheesy’, which Jake executed perfectly using astera tubes, mirror balls and a handmade DJ booth!

Jake made the booth with MDF wood and a ridiculous amount with IKEA greenery, but the end result kept in with the rest of the décor and we were so pleased with it. I picked sage green for the bridesmaids with rustic bouquets filled with greenery, blush pink, and white flowers (they were stunning). In the end, everything came together, and I remember being blown away coming out of the ceremony once I got to appreciate it all together in one place!

What Was The Most Memorable Part of Your Wedding Day?

The whole day was unbelievably special, but we have both said that exchanging our vows was just another level. In that moment, it was like no one else was in the room and we are glad we wrote our own vows. Other highlights definitely included the speeches; seeing everyone come together to share those funny moments with us is heartwarming, a real pinch me moment! We cried the whole way through the first dance, and it was a moment we certainly won’t ever forget.
